Ana Karenina Pdf Book Summary by BajrontBooks

Confusion reigned in the Oblon House in Moscow. Stiva Oblonsky betrayed his wife Dolly, along with the former governor and their children. Stiva was worried, but not too remorse. Dolly, meanwhile, collapses and refuses to leave her rooms.

The servants advise Stiva to always apologize and predict that Dolly will be quiet. Stiva finally visits Dolly and begs her to remember her nine-year marriage. Dolly is uncomfortable, she tells her husband that she is disgusting and completely stranger to him.

Stiva went to his office. Her work is respectable and enjoyable thanks to her charm and good contacts. Unexpectedly, he was visited by an old friend, Konstantin Levin, who lived in the countryside. Stiva introduced Levin to his business partners, who said Levin was active in the county, his village board.

Levin reveals that he is stepping down on the board and tells Stiva that he needs to discuss something important. They agreed to meet for dinner. Stiva thinks it has to do with her sister-in-law Kitty Shcherbatskaya, whom she knows is in love with Levin.

While in Moscow, Levin stayed with his uncle, Koznyshev, whose philosophical thinking sometimes confused Levin. The brothers discussed Levin’s plan to visit her estranged and ill third brother Nikolai, who had returned to Moscow with a friend. Koznyshev advises Levin not to go, says Levin can’t help Nikolai, who wants to be alone.

Levin went skating to the zoo, where he was sure he would find the charming Kitty. As expected, he was on the rink. Levin and Kitty enjoyed their time on the ice until Levin admitted that he had more confidence every time Kitty, a less good skater, leaned on him for support. Kitty’s will suddenly darkened and drove Levin away. Levin was amazed and excited to go to dinner with Steve.

At a luxury meal, Levin Stiva confesses his passionate love for Kitty. Stiva encourages Levin to be optimistic, but warns him against a rival of his grace, an official named Alexei Vronsky. Stiva immediately mentioned her own problem with coping with her children. Levin gently reprimands Stiva for his behavior, but Stiva laughs when he calls him a moralist.

More Summary Below

Kitty’s mother, Princess Shcherbatskaya, valued Vronsky and Levin’s merits. He was confused by Levin’s clumsiness and mostly preferred Vronsky. But the princess also knew that the young Russian nobles of the new generation would rather choose their husbands themselves than submit to the actions of their parents.

That night, Levin called Kitty into the house and found her alone. Kitty knows he loves her, but he loves Vronsky. She thought Levin was completely avoiding it, but she met him bravely and turned down his marriage proposal.

Princess Shcherbat was relieved to see that no engagement had been announced. Vronsky arrives and the devastated Levin impresses this rival lover. That night, Kitty couldn’t sleep, Levin’s face hated her. Kitty’s father knew about the rejected proposal and was angry because he had chosen Levin over Vronsky.

The next morning, Vronsky went to the train station to see his mother, who came from St. Louis. There he meets Stiva, who met his sister Anna Karenina. Vronsky tells Stiva that he has met Levin, whom he considers nice but a little awkward. Stiva defends Levin and suggests that Levin may have asked Kitty. Vronsky says Kitty can find a better partner. When the train arrived, Vronsky was waiting for his mother.
