Charles The First

Description of the Book
Charles I (born 19 Nov. 1600, Dunfermline Palace, Fife, Scot.—died 1 Jan. 30, 1649, London, England), King of Great Britain and Ireland (1625-1649). The son of James I, he received from his father a confirmation of the divine right of kings, and his first surviving letters reveal the distrust of the House of Commons. He became king in 1625 and shortly after married Henrietta Maria.
He entered his first parliament because of religious issues, his war against Spain, and a general distrust of his adviser the 1st Duke of Buckingham. After dissolving several successive parliaments, Charles ruled his kingdom for 11 years without calling a parliament.
