About the Author
Elizabeth Cleghorn Gaskell (née Stevenson; 29 September 1810 – 12 November 1865), commonly known as Mrs. Gaskell, was an English novelist, biographer, and short story writer.
Her novels provide a detailed description of the lives of many parts of Victorian society, including the poorest. Her work appeals to both public and literary readers. Her first novel, Mary Barton, was published in 1848.
