Island Nights Entertainments

Description of the Book
I saw this island for the first time when it was neither night nor morning. The moon was in the west, waning, but still wide and bright. In the east, and just in the middle of the rosy dawn, the day-star shines like a diamond.
The air of the country blows before us and smells strongly of wild linden and vanilla: other things too, but these are the lightest; the cold made me sneeze.
I must say that I have been for many years on a low island near the line, often living alone among the natives. There was a new experience: even the language would be completely foreign to me, and the sight of these forests and mountains, and their rare scent freshened my blood.

About the Author
Robert Louis Stevenson (born Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson; 13 November 1850 – 3 December 1894) was a Scottish writer, novelist, essayist, and travel writer. He is best known for works such as Treasure Island, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Kidnapped, and A Child’s Garden of Verses.
Born and educated in Edinburgh, Stevenson suffered from severe bronchial problems for most of his life, but he continued to write well and travel extensively despite his health. As a young man, he frequented London literary circles, encouraged by Andrew Lang, Edmund Gosse, Leslie Stephen, and W. E. Henley, the last of whom may have provided the model for Long John Silver and Treasure Island.
