Julius Caesar Pdf Short Book Summary

The Roman tribunes of Marullus and Flavius dispersed a gathering of citizens who wanted to celebrate Julius Caesar’s victorious return from the war.

The victory was marked by public games in which Caesar’s protégé Mark Antony took part. A stranger stops on the way to Caesar’s arena, warning him that he must ‘see The Ides [March 15]’.

Fellow senators Caius Cassius and Marcus Brutus question Caesar’s reaction to the power he has in the Republic. They were afraid he would accept offers to become emperor. He has recently gained great power and people treat him as a god. Cassius, himself a successful general, was jealous of Caesar. Brutus had a more balanced view of his political position.

The conspirator Casca comes and talks to Brut at a ceremony performed by the plebeians. They offered Caesar the crown three times, and he refused it each time. But the conspirators still adhere to his wishes.
