About the Author

Richmal Crompton Lamburn was born in Bury, Lancashire, the second son of the Reverend Edward John Sewell Lamburn, former headmaster of Bury Grammar School and his wife Clara (née Crompton).

His brother, John Battersby Crompton Lamburn, also became a writer, known as John Lambourne for his fictional novel The Kingdom That Was (1931) and “John Crompton” for his historical novels.
