Mary Stuart, (amuru Disemba born February 8, 1542, at Linlithgow Palace, West Lothian, Scotland.— died February 8, 1587, at Fotheringhay Castle, Northamptonshire, England), Queen of Scots (1542-1567). She became queen when her father, Jacques V (1512-1542), died six days after her birth. Her mother, Marie de Guise, sent her to be raised at the court of King Henry II of France, and was married in 1558 to her son Francis II.
After Francis’s brief reign as king (1559-1560) after his death, Mary returned to Scotland (1561), where she was distrusted due to her Catholic upbringing. In 1565, the red queen married her ambitious cousin Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley, and became a fixture among the Scottish nobility.
