Phaedo

Socrates’ companions arrived in his cell, including his old buddy Crito and two Pythagorean philosophers, Simmias and Cebes.
Description
Socrates opens the story by arguing that, while suicide is bad, a good philosopher should look forward to death. Socrates claims that the soul is immortal, and he spends his life educating it to detach itself from the desires of the body. He backs up his allegation with four points. The first is the Opposites Argument. E
verything, he claims, arises from its polar opposite, so that a tall man becomes tall only because he was once short. Similarly, death is the polar opposite of life, therefore living things emerge from dead things and vice versa.
