The Moonstone

Description of the Book
The Moonstone begins with a written account of the huge, yellow Moonstone diamond, which Hindus revere as the centerpiece of their idol of the Moon.
Three Brahmin priests are required to guard the stone at all times. While fighting for the British Army in India in 1799, John Herncastle killed the three Brahmins who were guarding the diamond and brought it back to England with him.
The novel advances to the mid-1800s. Franklin Blake, Lady Verinder’s nephew, has asked Gabriel Betteredge, steward to Lady Verinder, born Julia Herncastle, to write a comprehensive narrative of the circumstances surrounding the theft of the Moonstone from Lady Verinder’s mansion.
