Description of the Book

The Edwin Drood Mystery is an unfinished detective novel by Charles Dickens that follows John Jasper, a poet and opium addict whose missing nephew is secretly a drug addict. Chapman & Hall published the book as a serial in 1870.

At the beginning of the novel, John Jasper leaves the opium house and goes to Cloisterham Cathedral where he is a singer. After the service, Edwin Drood, Jasper’s nephew, comes to see her and tells her that he has doubts about her relationship with Rosa Bud.
