The Poison Belt Pdf Book Summary by BajrontBooks
Challenger sent telegrams asking his three companions from the Lost World – Edward Malone, Lord John Roxton and Professor Summerlee – to accompany him to his home outside London, ordering each to ‘carry oxygen’.
On their way there, they saw that people’s behavior had become exciting and unpleasant. Upon arrival, they were brought to the sealed room with Challenger and his wife. In the course of his research into various events, Challenger predicted that the Earth would act on a belt of poisonous devourers who, based on its impact on the people of Sumatra earlier that day, expected to discourage humanity.
Challenger sealed them in the room with oxygen cylinders, which he (rightly) believes will withstand the effects of ether. The five wait for the earth to pass through the wire belt, while starving the outside world, man and animal, and the raging machines.
(The challenger’s servants are left outside the sealed room and continue to perform their duties until they are accepted by the eater.) Finally, the end of the oxygen cylinders is emptied and one is opened. windows, ready to face death. To their surprise, they did not die and concluded that the earth had already passed through the wire belt.
They travel through the dead countryside in Challenger’s car and eventually arrive in London. Only one they met, an elderly woman bedridden, wrote oxygen for her health. Upon returning to Challenger’s house, they learn that the etheric effect is temporary and the world is waking up without knowing they are gone at any moment.
Eventually, Challenger and his colleagues were able to convince the world of what had happened – a task facilitated by the sheer deaths and damage caused by running engines and fires that occurred when the world slept – and people were shocked when they set a higher value in life.
