The Tale of Mrs Tiggy Winkle Pdf Book Summary

The plot is about a young girl named Lucie who has a habit of losing her pocket squares. Lucie goes out in search of three handkerchiefs and an apron that she has lost. Follows a path up a hill that leads to the house of a little washerwoman named Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle.

Lucie finds there her handkerchiefs and her apron, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle washed them. Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle also shows Lucie items of clothing that belong to different animals. It is only at the end of the story that Lucie realizes that Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle is a hedgehog.

Beatrix Potter kept a house hedgehog named Mrs. Tiggy-winkle and used the animal as a model for the illustrations in the book. Mrs Tiggy-Winkle’s character is based on a real person named Kitty MacDonald, a washerwoman that Beatrix Potter’s family employed for eleven summers while on holiday in the Scottish Highlands. Beatrix Potter describes Kitty MacDonald as a small, round, tanned woman with small, dark eyes who wore several petticoats and a white beret.

Lucie’s character is based on a girl named Lucie Carr, one of the local vicar’s two daughters, whom Beatrix Potter met on a vacation to Cumbria in 1901. On one occasion, Lucie Carr dropped her gloves after taking the you. in the country house where Beatrix Potter was staying, giving Potter the idea that Lucie had lost her handkerchiefs. The book is dedicated to Lucie Carr.

A braille edition of The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle was first published in 1921. A French translation was first published in 1922, the first of several translations of The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle into other languages. A Welsh translation was published in 1932. In 1965 an edition of the book on teaching the early alphabet was published. .
